Install SmileMaxer Desktop
Install SmileMaxer Desktop on every operatory computer that will participate in voice charting. Clinicians who want to chart from their phone also install the PerioMaxer app: iPhone from the App Store, Android from Google Play. Mobile access is included with every desktop subscription; no separate purchase. The phone is optional: the desktop charts from the computer’s own microphone too.
Windows
- Sign in to your admin portal at smilemaxer.com/admin.
- Open Licenses and copy the key you’ll use for this computer.
- Download the latest installer from the Downloads page (linked from the admin portal).
- Run the installer. Windows SmartScreen may show a publisher-verified prompt the first time. Click More info then Run anyway. (Once we accrue SmartScreen reputation this prompt goes away.)
- When SmileMaxer launches, paste the license key and click Activate.
- Choose your PMS (Open Dental or Dentrix). Follow the per-PMS setup guide below.
macOS
- Sign in to the admin portal and copy a license key.
- Download the SmileMaxer.dmg.
- Drag SmileMaxer to Applications. First launch will ask for permissions:
- Accessibility (required): so SmileMaxer can type into your PMS window.
- Local network (required): so the clinician’s phone can pair over Wi-Fi.
- Microphone (optional): only needed if you dictate into the operatory computer itself instead of a paired phone. Speech recognition runs on-device either way; no audio leaves the machine.
- Paste the license key and activate.
Network considerations
- The clinician’s phone must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the operatory computer. Most practices already do this.
- If your network segregates operatories with VLANs, the phone must be on the operatory’s VLAN, not a guest VLAN.
- Firewall rule (if your IT department asks): allow inbound TCP on the SmileMaxer port (displayed in Settings) from the operatory’s subnet.
