Any other practice software

PerioMaxer works with any practice software you open on a Windows computer, in its own window or in a web browser. With anything other than Open Dental or Dentrix, it uses Manual mode.

PerioMaxer never reaches inside your practice software. It types into the perio chart from the keyboard, the same way a person would: a digit for each reading, then the key your software uses to move to the next cell. So if you can type a perio exam into your software by hand, PerioMaxer can type it for you.

We have tested Open Dental and Dentrix, not every system. Use the free first week to chart a test patient in yours before anything is billed. If something does not type the way it should, tell us from your portal and we will work through it with you.

How it differs from Open Dental and Dentrix

  • With Open Dental and Dentrix, the office computer finds the open perio chart and types each value as it is spoken.
  • In Manual mode, the clinician charts the whole exam on the phone first. The finished chart goes to the office computer, and you tell PerioMaxer where the chart starts by clicking on it.

Setup, once per computer

  1. Install and sign in to PerioMaxer Desktop. See the setup guide.
  2. In Settings, choose your system under Dental software, or Other software if it is not listed.
  3. Under Desktop mode, choose Manual saved charts. A guided setup opens the first time.
  4. Chart order: draw the order your software moves through the chart when you type into it by hand: which rows, which teeth, and in which direction. Most offices start from the built-in order and change a row or two.
  5. Rows: turn on the rows your software takes (probing depth, gingival margin, and so on), and say how each one moves to the next cell: Tab, Enter, the right arrow, or on its own after a digit. Say where bleeding goes: a letter typed with the depth, or a row of its own.
  6. How much to type at once: the whole chart, one row, or one section at a time.
  7. Test: run the setup test on a test patient, never a real one, and check that every value landed in the right cell.

Charting a patient

  1. On the phone, connect to the office computer by scanning its code, chart the exam by voice, name the chart, and send it.
  2. In your practice software, open the patient’s perio chart.
  3. In PerioMaxer’s Chart tab, pick the chart, and the row too if you type one row at a time. The bar names the cell to start from.
  4. Hold Ctrl and click that cell in your practice software. PerioMaxer types the values in. Keep your hands off the keyboard and mouse until it finishes.
  5. Check the chart and save the exam in your software as usual.

Where the chart is kept

  • The chart goes from the phone to the office computer over your own office network. It never passes through PerioMaxer’s cloud.
  • The office computer keeps the five most recent charts, protected by Windows, and deletes each one 48 hours after it arrives.
